A return to simplicity and peace

Just 2km from the old town of Hội An, down a small lane across the Thu Bồn river, Yên sits among rice fields and a green bamboo grove. "Yên" means peace, and that is what we keep here: birdsong and the chorus of insects, the click of weaving looms, the scent of woodsmoke and grass, and the slow rhythm of the countryside. A traditional Vietnamese garden-home for body and mind to rest.

About Yên

Hello, Yên here!

Less than 2km from the old town of Hội An, just a short way by bicycle, motorbike or on foot, you cross two iron bridges over the Thu Bồn river and follow a small riverside lane, a place that still keeps the unspoiled beauty of the rural, ecological countryside. By car, the old town is about 4km away, over the large Cẩm Kim concrete bridge.

Yên is blessed with the fresh air of a land of rivers and sky: a green calm still reigns here, the creak of the bamboo clumps, the drone of cicadas, roosters at first light, lilting birdsong, the chatter of insects, the scent of woodsmoke and grass... all carrying us back to a rural childhood left behind beyond the rush of the city.

A rural Vietnamese home

Leaving the city, we came to settle in this ecological countryside and restored the main house from a traditional central-Vietnamese "three-bay house", a home nearly sixty years old. Wrapped by a veranda and a lush green garden, the house stays warm in winter and cool in summer.

The space was reimagined with handcrafted materials, old wood, salvaged old doors and bricks, bamboo, thatch, water-coconut leaf, and traditional local furnishings... shaped by the hands of local artisans who keep alive the spirit of tradition, culture and craft.

Beside the main house, a newly built two-storey wooden house is the space for events: meditation, yoga, workshops, art performances… An old cow barn was restored into a warm wooden apartment roofed with water-coconut leaf, tucked beneath a dense green bamboo grove.

You can rest at ease, swaying in a hammock in the riverside bamboo hut, taking in the green of the water, the grass, the water hyacinth and morning glory, and the sky... with a cool sweeping breeze and birdsong in the early morning and at noon.

Yên keeps a patch of earthen yard, remembering a childhood of running in the garden, playing marbles and sandal-toss... it is also where an evening fire can be lit for gathering, conversation or music. Connecting with "Mother Earth", so sacred, through your own bare feet.

New locals

Here, we care for our health through a wholesome way of living and eating. We eat vegan, macrobiotic food balanced in yin and yang following traditional Eastern philosophy. We nurture the spirit through Zen meditation, health-cultivating qigong and yoga.

Yên is also home to special friends who care deeply about education and wish for their children to grow up happy. We have a small school, with parents and teachers raising the children through Waldorf Steiner education.

An ecology of local culture

Here you can visit the carpentry village, the pottery village and the Trà Nhiêu eco-village, learn to make mỳ Quảng noodles and weave sleeping mats, cycle along the small village lanes, watch sunrise and sunset over the river and the fields, take a boat trip, and visit the My Son Sanctuary and the Marble Mountains... feeling the ecology these villages still hold amid urbanisation.

Your return is a precious resonance that supports and preserves the ecological space here. Yên hopes you will have restful days, practising meditation and yoga, savouring nourishing macrobiotic meals, and enjoying the peace.

The grounds

Shared spaces to slow down in

Beyond the rooms, Yên opens onto a riverside garden, a plant-based kitchen, a meditation hall and quiet corners to read, small places made for lingering.

Bếp Yên

The heart of the house: a purely vegan, macrobiotic kitchen balanced on the principle of Âm Dương (yin and yang). We believe the cook's state of mind enters the food, so every seasonal, home-grown meal is prepared with care, gratitude and love, to nourish both body and spirit. Bếp Yên: peace in every home-cooked meal.

The meditation hall

Set beneath the cool green bamboo and framed in old wood and antique windows, the hall is dedicated to Zen, yoga, qigong and mindfulness practice. You are welcome to practise on your own, or join our sessions. It is also where we hold gatherings, talks and wellness retreats.

The garden & riverside gazebo

A wooden gazebo by the river to read, sip tea, sway in a hammock and watch the water drift by in stillness. The garden, kept apart from the world outside, lets you walk barefoot on the cool earth and feel the pulse of Mother Nature.

The living & dining room

A shared living space that connects the rooms of the house: a quiet shelf of books, a few hand-picked corners, and a warm wooden table where you can share a meal in the easy atmosphere of a family home.

Janavi

Janavi has been practising and sharing Anusara Yoga since 2018, is a Himalayan Singing Bowls Trainer (Master Level), offers Healing Massage, works in the Women's Circle, and takes part in various transformational-arts practice spaces.

She continues to cultivate inner qualities through solo adventures into the jungle, visits to sacred sites in India, and meditation journeys in the Himalayas. These experiences are a process of self-reflection, releasing limitations, barriers and old patterns, and discovering oneself more deeply, grounded in surrender and integrity.

Janavi has served for over eight years in non-profit spiritual organisations focused on community awakening, and practises Vipassana meditation each year in the tradition of Teacher S. N. Goenka. A safe, empathetic and loving environment is a core value she upholds in all her practice spaces, present in her work with complete and sincere dedication.

Come as you are. Slow down. Breathe. Return.
