Leaving the city, we came to settle in this ecological countryside and restored the main house from a traditional central-Vietnamese "three-bay house", a home nearly sixty years old. Wrapped by a veranda and a lush green garden, the house stays warm in winter and cool in summer.
The space was reimagined with handcrafted materials, old wood, salvaged old doors and bricks, bamboo, thatch, water-coconut leaf, and traditional local furnishings... shaped by the hands of local artisans who keep alive the spirit of tradition, culture and craft.
Beside the main house, a newly built two-storey wooden house is the space for events: meditation, yoga, workshops, art performances… An old cow barn was restored into a warm wooden apartment roofed with water-coconut leaf, tucked beneath a dense green bamboo grove.
You can rest at ease, swaying in a hammock in the riverside bamboo hut, taking in the green of the water, the grass, the water hyacinth and morning glory, and the sky... with a cool sweeping breeze and birdsong in the early morning and at noon.
Yên keeps a patch of earthen yard, remembering a childhood of running in the garden, playing marbles and sandal-toss... it is also where an evening fire can be lit for gathering, conversation or music. Connecting with "Mother Earth", so sacred, through your own bare feet.
